The ancient Agastheeswara Swamy Temple, popularly known as Sivalayam, is one of the oldest Shiva temples in Proddatur. According to local tradition, the Shiva Lingam was consecrated by Sage Agastya, making the temple an important pilgrimage destination for Shaivites. Festival Biography

Maha Shivaratri is the most important festival celebrated at the temple. The celebrations begin with special Abhishekams using milk, honey, curd, sandalwood, and sacred water while priests chant Vedic hymns continuously. Devotees observe fasting, participate in all-night bhajans, and perform prayers throughout the night, believing that worship on Shivaratri grants spiritual liberation and divine blessings. The temple is beautifully decorated with flowers and lights, creating a deeply devotional atmosphere that attracts pilgrims from nearby districts.
